As Impatient As A Flower!

My knowledge of botany is as naive as a child. But in fact it was one of the many things I wanted to do before I settled to become an IT engineer and a part time amateur astronomer and photographer.

I was amazed to see flowers named as fancy as these. But after some reading on www found out that  ‘Impatience’ is actually a miss-spell. There are many kinds of impatiens flowers (sometimes misspelled as “impatience” or “impatients”). They are so called because their ripe seed pods will sometimes burst open from even a light touch (as if they were “impatient” to open). Plant taxonomy classifies one of the more popular groups of impatiens flowers as Impatiens walleriana, source

So what we are seeing here is just one type of flowers out of whole species named as Impaitens, hmmm. 🙂

Taken when I was on a Kerala trip with my wife this year..
